Green Revolution





Definition :
* New varieties plants produced through series of R&D and technology transfer initiatives.
* Significant increase in agriculture activity through R&D and technology transfer initiatives.

What is the Green Revolution?

  • Throughout history there have been many revolutions that have occured & changed human live. 
  • Example : American Revolution & the Industrial Revolution. In the mid and late-20th century a revolution was known as the Green Revolution
  • It was a period when the productivity of global agriculture increased drastically as a result of new advances.
  • New chemical fertilizers & synthetic herbicides 
  • Pesticides were created.
  • Chemical fertilizers made it possible to supply crops with extra nutrients, thus increase yield.
  • The newly developed synthetic herbicides & pesticides controlled weeds, deterred or kill insect, and prevented disease, which also resulted in higher productivity.
